Should health care be provided to all in America for free?

Question by jasin: Should health care be provided to all in America for free?
You think health care is expensive now wait until we just give away.
Do you all relaize that 60% of America already has or qualifies for free health care? Its called medicaid, va, and medicare.
Do you not also realize that an estimated 1/8 – 1/4th of all Americans are getting health care from their employers or former employers?
That’s over 70% of America that already has or qualifies for health care!! Why do we need to just give it away?
azawalli, i’m not a republican and I could careless what bill oriely thinks .. I dont even watch foxnews.
Shaneladd, free health care in Canada is not anything to brag about!! Why do you think all the Canadians are comming down here for their surgeries?
toddmcon, excellent point!
emanyio712, good point also.
chefantwon, you can thank Bush for that!!

Just think of what we could of done overhauling va and the such with 1/2 a trillion dollars, what we spent in iraq.

You could of built some really nice va hospitals with that money!! It only takes 12 million to build a state of the art hospital if it’s done right, with the right contractors and supplies.

Thats about 41 new va hospitals we could of built from the ground up and that would cover most all of the usa since va hospitals are regional not state by state.
Claudia, canadian health care sucks, the quality of care is so low that Canadians are jumping across the border to get procedures done here. If I was a canandian I’d do the same I would not wait over 6 months to have a life saving proceedure done.

Nothing is free, you are mistaken!! They have to pay into their system regardless of whether their given away for free or not.

The only reason they can get away with it easier then us is because europeans tend not to have as many health problems as we do. Americans just addmit, are fat, lazy, and over consumers of everything.
adensaa, canada has not, the quality of care there really sucks. Plus, I hear about funding issues on the cbc nearly everyday.

That is the big question. How do you pay for “free” health care? Those services have to be paid for. The doctors and nurses do not work for free. The supplies and medicines they use are not free. The hospital and all that is required to run it is not free. The machines they use are not free. There is nothing free on the supply side of the equation. Making the demand side free is going to have to be paid for. How do you do that? Tax every thing to death. That won’t do too much good for the economy.

Which is the best hospital to go to for problems with the liver? Columbia University or Stoney Brook, LI?

Question by WOLFIE: Which is the best hospital to go to for problems with the liver? Columbia University or Stoney Brook, LI?
or Stoney Brook? My brother has chirrosis of the liver/

Best answer:

Answer by abijann
You would be best to have a Transplant Center and
the doctors there, then a regular hospital that doesn’t
normally handle transplant patients. These doctors
are very well informed about any new drugs and
treatment of patients with Cirrhosis of the liver.

1) Mount Sinai Medical Center
2) Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester School of Medicine
3)The Presbyterian Hospital in N.Y. City,
Columbia-Presbyterian Med. Ctr.
4)Westchester County Medical Center
5)Albany Medical Center Hospital
6)New York University Medical Center

Here is a link to other Transplant Centers; when you get
to this site…click in the right hand column where it says
“guide to centers”
http://www.transplantweek.org/members/Guide/organs.htm

A gastroenterologist deals with the entire digestive
system; a hepatologist is a specialist in the field of
everything pertaining to the liver. Many of these
transplant centers have websites on the web.
Some even list the doctors that are with them, that
he may see. Your brother’s primary care physician
can refer him to them.

I hope this is of some help.

What happens in rehab?

Question by K<3A 2315: What happens in rehab?
My boyfriend has gone to rehab for 30 days. I know the idea of rehab, and it was more of his choice then being forced. But for him i wonder if it will help. He huffs, which is deadly, but will rehab give him new skills to cope with things or just try to break the addiction while hes there. I’ve never been to rehab, but what are the bests things I can do to support him when he’s out? He’s only 17, and needed the help. But is there anything I can do for him? Also, anyone who’s gone through rehab, can you tell me what its like? I’m straight edge, so I know thats a good example for him, but what else can I do other then be there for him?
He’s only going for 30 days because insurance will only pay for 30. and his case worker said he would only need 30-45 days. I’m not sure how they base it. its a youth rehab center.

If he is only going for 30 days it probably wont help too much. They will just keep him off it for the 30 days and teach him ways of trying to resist temptation.

What he really needs to do is go to a rehab which will keep you there for 2-3 months (you sign a form saying they can keep you there for that long even if you wish to leave) where they completely break you down and get to the roots of everything negative in your life and then build you back up again. That is the type of rehab that actually works.
