Why won’t my mom stop drinking?
Question by ashtan: Why won’t my mom stop drinking?
I apologize if this is really long.
I am a 14 year old girl & I’m beginning to become a little hopeless. My mother has been drinking all my life, but it has become increasingly worse in the past three years; so much that she can’t go a few days without a drink. Last December she fell & broke her wrist & ultimately had to have surgery on it to fix it. The doctor gave her very strict instructions to wait at least 4 weeks to go without any drinks because of her medication, yet after 4 days she began again. When she drinks, which is usually every single night, she gets very VERY angry & stubborn & she swears a lot. My brother is 18 in a few weeks & I can’t help but be jealous of him because he gets to leave & I don’t. I’ve read into what I can do, & it’s not very much. I’ve spoken to my mom about help & she refuses, then immediately changes the subject. She won’t acknowledge that she even has a problem. We’ve given her an ultimatum to choose between her family & her wine; she chose the wine. I cry myself to sleep almost every night because I just don’t know how to handle this anymore. I leave on the weekends just to get away from her screaming & complaining because I can’t take it. My small town has no sort of help group that I would be able to sneak off to, because my mother doesn’t approve of me getting help “when there’s no problem”. I can’t call DHS to leave because she’s never hurt me PHYSICALLY, so there’s nothing they can do. I hoped her disease would go away with time & patience of something better, but it’s just gotten worse. I feel trapped because I can’t tell my friends; they would never come over anymore. I can’t seem to study or do homework because all I hear at my home is constant fighting & screaming, so my GPA has decreased awfully. No child my age should have to live like this. I don’t usually ask for help but I’ve got no where to turn.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP.
Thank you
